You’ve decided you need to buy a new computer, something more up to date that can effortlessly run the latest software or even games. What are some things you should consider before diving into your wallet, pulling out a wad of cash and making a purchase?
The Purpose Of Your New Computer
Meaning, what will you mainly be using it for?
This question will dictate just how powerful a machine you really need at your disposal. If you are just sending out a few emails and writing some stuff on Word for the most part, you won’t need a computer with mind-blowing tech specs.
On the other hand, of you’re a serious computer gamer – or plan to be – you will definitely need something a lot more robust in its make up. You will require fast processor speed, stacks of memory to handle the complexities of the game and, most importantly, a graphics card that seriously kicks butt.
Even if you don’t plan to do much on your new computer to start with, that could change down the track, so maybe go for a computer that has a bit more going for it than what you think you’ll need. Either way, you can always get a computer tech to perform a computer upgrade on its components at a later date, so no real drama there.
Laptop VS PC
Often this is more a matter of personal choice and whether you need a computer that is portable. Ideally having one of each would be the way to go, but if you have to choose one over the other, which will it be – A laptop or a desktop?
If you don’t plan on taking your computer anywhere, then go with a desktop. You can attach much bigger monitors, computer upgrades of internal components is easier, and generally you can have yourself an all-round powerful machine if you need one.
Mac or PC?
Often this will come down to personal preference. Mac users will always swear Macs are better, and the same with those who are accustomed to working on a PC. Over the years Apple Mac have built up a solid reputation for producing stable equipment of a high quality, but PCs have also served multiple millions of people well over the years, too.
Maybe the main point that might dictate your decision is whether the software you use, or plan to use, is available on both operating systems. If it’s only available on one or the other, then the decision may be made for you based on that.
